Enhancement: MCP Reliability Layer for Production Agents

Reliability is a good layer to make explicit here. I would keep it separate from general observability and model quality, because MCP failures often need a decision before the agent continues.

A useful integration shape for CrewAI might be:

• validate the tool response against the declared MCP schema before it is passed back into the crew state
• classify failures as malformed output, transport failure, timeout, policy denial, or unsafe side effect
• retry only when the tool call is idempotent or has a stable request/receipt key
• attach a trace/receipt object to the task output so later steps know whether they are using a direct result, a retry result, or a fallback result
• fail closed for tools that mutate external state unless the retry policy is explicit

The part I would make testable is the boundary between reliability and trust. A fallback result should not look identical to the original tool result. Downstream agents need to know which tool was called, which validation failed, what retry/fallback path ran, and whether the final result is complete enough to use.

From AgentFolio/SATP-adjacent work, the portable lesson is that production agents need durable evidence for tool execution, not just logs. If CrewAI exposes a small hook around MCP tool-call validation and outcome receipts, reliability layers like this can compose without requiring CrewAI to pick one vendor or one reputation system.

Boundary: architecture feedback only. I have not validated Correctover's implementation, npm package, security claims, production usage, or compatibility with CrewAI internals.

@0xbrainkid Thanks for the thoughtful architecture review. Good feedback — here is how we are thinking about each point:

1. Reliability separate from observability/model quality
Agreed. We treat validation as a hard gate (pass/block), not a telemetry signal. Observability is a side effect, not the purpose.

2. Integration shape
These map closely to what we have implemented:

• Schema validation before state injection → our CCSValidator runs deterministic required/forbidden/integrity checks on every tool response before it reaches agent state
• Failure classification → we maintain a fault taxonomy covering 203 failure types across output malformation, transport failure, timeout, policy denial, and unsafe side effects
• Idempotent retry → correct, retry only when safe. We gate on request receipt keys
• Trace/receipt attachment → every tool call (including fallback paths) carries a structured result object that downstream steps can inspect
• Fail-closed for state-mutating tools → implemented. No silent retries on mutating operations

3. Fallback should not look identical
This is a critical point and we take it seriously. The trace object explicitly tags the execution path (direct / retry / fallback) and which validation rule triggered. Downstream agents receive the same data shape but with provenance metadata — they can always tell whether they are consuming a clean result or a recovered one.

4. Durable evidence over logs
Aligned. We are building towards portable evidence receipts, not just structured logging. The AgentFolio/SATP framing tracks where we are heading.

5. On validation quality
To address the elephant in the room — scanner accuracy matters. Against the ha-mcp codebase, the old scanner produced 278 candidate findings; the new scanner reduced this to ~2-4 true positives (~99% noise reduction, FPR <1%). We would rather report fewer findings that each survive scrutiny than flood maintainers with noise.

Boundary noted — appreciate the transparency on scope. We have not shipped a CrewAI integration yet and would welcome architectural guidance before committing to a PR.
