KythOS

KythOS is a Fedora-based atomic Linux image built for gaming and productivity. It uses the bootc / Universal Blue toolchain to deliver an immutable, OCI image-based system that updates atomically and can roll back instantly.

Features

  • Immutable & atomic — base system is read-only; updates are whole image swaps
  • Gaming ready at first boot — Steam, Proton, MangoHud, GameMode pre-installed
  • Flatpak-first — apps are sandboxed and independent from the base OS
  • Distrobox — run any Linux environment as a container from your desktop
  • Fedora Kinoite base — up-to-date Mesa, hardware support, and Fedora's ecosystem
  • CachyOS kernel — BORE scheduler, low-latency tuning, and better gaming performance
  • Community built — open source, PRs welcome

Other Recommended Distros

We also recommend these for specific use cases:

  • Bazzite — most beginner-friendly, Fedora atomic gaming image
  • CachyOS — maximum performance, Arch-based
  • Nobara — Fedora with gaming patches, made by GloriousEggroll
  • Aurora — Universal Blue / KDE for devs who game

This site is a community project. KythOS is not officially affiliated with Fedora, Universal Blue, or any other distributions linked here.
